Itinerary
8.30am: Start your interesting Inle Lake full day sightseeing tour by motorized boat.
This morning, we pay a visit to the bustling 5-day market on the lake (it is open daily except the dark moon and full moon days of the lunar calendar). The name of the market derives from its characteristic of rotating the location among villages following a scheduled 5 days. En route, we will pass through some villages of Intha people who live in the house – on – stilt, cultivate in the floating garden and master in the incredible one – leg rowing technique.
Next, our boat will take you to Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery which is also known as the “Jumping Cat Monastery”. In the past, the cats in this religious house could jump through hoops. However, nowadays, they don’t do that anymore due to the fact that the monks who taught them all passed away. Yet, the monastery still worth a visit for featuring some notable ancient Shan Buddha statues.
We continue our visit to the main attraction of Inle Lake – Phaung Daw Oo pagoda where is home to 5 precious Buddha images covered completely in gold leaves.
Then, you will have a chance to observe the making of one traditional handicraft in Inle Lake. The choice ranges from lotus silk weaving, boat building (depending on the time of the year), cheroot making (Burmese cigar), black smiths and silver smiths. If time permits, we will also visit the Nampan village’s silver and pirogue workshop.
Back to the hotel in the late afternoon.
