Itinerary
8.30AM: Our guide wil pick you up at the meeting point - The Immanuel Baptist Church (next to the Mahabandoola Garden near Yangon city hall).
Start the trip by a 2 - hour drive (80kms) to the northwest of Yangon which will bring you to Bago - the central city of the Mon Kingdom of Lower Myanmar during the 15th century. We will stopover at Kha Khat Wain Monastery where hundreds of monks are dedicated to following Buddha’s teachings.
Then, visit the four mammoth Buddha images seated in the open-air surrounding Kyaikpun pagoda (also constructed by the Mon king 'Damazedi' in 1476 A.D).
After lunch, we’ll continue to visit the vibrant Bago local market as well as Shwemawdaw Pagoda, one of the most respected shrines in Myanmar. The spire here rises to a height of 114m and is even more impressive than the one at Shwedagon Pagoda. The gigantic Shwethalyaung reclining Buddha figure which dated back to 9th century is the most realistic and popular of all the reclining images.
Next, take a walk to the top of HinTharWaddy temple for a unique view of Bago and a chance to learn more about the worship of nats as the temple is home to various nat shrines. And of course, on our trip back to Yangon, you will have an opportunity to visit the Allied War Cemetery located close to Htaukkyan, the final resting place for over 27,000 allied soldiers.
In the late afternoon, say goodbye to your group at the meeting point.
